Massage Basics
What are fascia and why are healthy fascia important?
Fascia provides structure and support throughout your body. They hold your muscles together and provide a smooth surface for your muscles, joints, and organs to slide against each other without creating any friction or tears and instead, allow them to contract and stretch. Keeping your fascia healthy has many benefits - you'll move more easily, have a better range of motion, and experience less pain.
What is chi?
The simple definition of chi is life force or energy. The concept of chi originates from China and is a guiding principle in Chinese medicine; likewise, it is recognized throughout Asia and connected to spiritual observation such as Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, and other practices of enlightenment. Chi flows through all living beings and connects us energetically, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. When your chi is balanced, your mind, body, and spirit are in alignment. It is thought that chi must be able to flow freely in order to promote optimal health and wellness.
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is the belief that putting pressure on certain areas of your feet can heal ailments elsewhere in your body. It stems from traditional Chinese medicine and encompasses the idea that energy, called ‘chi,’ flows through the body along particular pathways or meridians. When there’s a problem in the body, it can be connected to blockages of chi.
What is myofascial release therapy?
Myofascial release therapy targets the thin tissue that covers your muscles, bones, and organs. The pain in these tissues originates at trigger points that are hard to localize. Self-myofascial release therapy (SMFR) works by applying gentle, sustained pressure on areas of restrictions. The KOAPRO Massage Tools are great self-use myofascial release tools with their patented design that mimics a therapist’s hands, fingers, knuckles, and elbows. They are available in 3 sizes - each with unique features that allow you to release, decompress, and loosen tension and pain, wherever you need it.
SMFR research indicates that it can increase flexibility, and reduce muscle soreness, while improving athletic performance. It may lead to improved arterial function, vascular endothelial function, and parasympathetic nervous system activity - all of which can be useful in muscle recovery.
What is a trigger point? What causes trigger points and how does trigger point therapy work?
Trigger points are involuntary tight tender spots in a contracted muscle, often with decreased circulation, increased muscle contraction, spasms, and increased nerve sensitivity. This can sometimes cause sharp pain, constant aches, or referred pain felt in other parts of the body.
Trigger points develop from stress, repetitive or overuse of a muscle, trauma or accident, structural imbalance, or improper or lack of stretching before physical activity. Knots can develop when individual muscle fibers are over-stimulated, increasing blood flow and diminishing oxygen supply; the result can be your body transmitting pain signals. To treat trigger points, apply sustained pressure for about 10-30 seconds to release the muscle spasm and relax the muscle. This increases blood flow to the muscle, normalizing it and bringing it back to a healthy state. This procedure is one of the most powerful yet simple ways to treat muscle pain and discomfort.
What causes post-workout muscle soreness?
All exercise, especially high-intensity training, stresses the body. When you push through fatigue or soreness, you’re causing microscopic damage to the muscle cells. An intense, short-term stressor, followed by the appropriate recovery method, is healthy and very beneficial for your body’s systems and functions. However, repeated stressors without adequate recovery can throw your body out of balance and lead to pain, injury, and illness. It’s important to allow time for recovery, to allow your body to repair and rebuild.
When more stress and demand are placed on your body’s tissues - including your myofascial tissues, heart, lungs, and bones - they learn to adapt, recover, and get stronger. This allows you to work towards more strength, muscle definition, gains, and a healthier mind and body. One of the most effective ways to reduce muscle soreness and achieve better performance, definition, and gains is to release tension with myofascial massage therapy.
KOAPRO Massage Tools General
How do the KOAPRO Fascia Massage Tools address and heal fasica to help relieve pain and tension?
The KOAPRO Fascia Massage Tools are specifically designed to mimic the hands, elbows, and techniques of a skilled massage therapist. By massaging the skin, you're addressing the layers of myofascial tissue beneath the skin and helping to relax, smooth, and detangle fascial adhesions. It can also help "break up" scar tissue and create more space between the layers of tissue so they can hydrate and glide effortlessly, allowing you to have more range of motion, better performance, and less pain and restriction.

What's the difference between the KOAPRO Massage Tools and a foam roller?
A foam roller and rolling devices can help smooth and relax the soft tissues. However, they don't "untangle" or create space between the deeper layers of connective tissue.
If you've used a foam roller, you'll be pleasantly surprised with how different and more effective the KOAPRO Massage Tools are. They're also more versatile and are designed to easily reach every area of your body.
What's the difference between KOAPRO Massage Tools and other massage tools?
Before we designed the KOAPRO Massage Tools, we looked for other tools on the market to give us the relief we craved. All the tools we found were made with cheap, toxic materials, didn't work as well as they advertised, broke easily, scratched/pinched/snagged, or simply didn't address the myofascial system. THe KOAPRPO Massage Tools are all patented and made with durable, high quality components and materials

Cellulite is caused by unhealthy connective tissue, or "fascia," that clumps together and traps your fat layers into adhesions and causes a dimpled appearance. This can result in a smoother, more sculpted physique when combined with quality nutrition, exercise, and sleep.

Gua Sha
What is Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is an ancient, Eastern Asian manual therapy that is used for healing and wellness. This method uses a tool to gently scrape the skin while improving circulation and detoxification. Some benefits of gua sha include improved blood flow to lessen toxins, reduction in inflammation and pain, and improved skin health, healing, and wellness.
The KOAPRO Gua Sha Tool, when used on the face or body, helps to relieve muscle tension, boost blood circulation, promote lymphatic drainage, and help with facial edema and perimenopausal symptoms. It also enhances the delivery of fresh oxygen and nutrients to various tissues throughout the body, which means a healthier glow for the skin.
What are the benefits of Gua Sha?
Gua Sha stimulates total body circulation, which brings nutrients to the skin, purifies and cleanses the body, and regenerates you inside and out. It can also help reduce tension, pain, inflammation, and scar tissue while boosting your immune system, range of motion, and collagen production. Some studies show that it even helps improve sleep quality.
What does Gua Sha do for your face?
Facial Gua Sha is a face massage technique that helps relieve tension in the facial muscles and tissues, boost circulation, and promote lymphatic drainage, as well as collagen and elastin production. This helps decrease puffiness, sinus pressure, dark circles, blemishes, and fine lines while lifting, brightening, and contouring your face.
Does Gua Sha actually work?
Gua Sha has been used since ancient times as a medicinal therapy, and has more recently been popularized for beauty treatments.
How can I use Gua Sha for the best results?
- Always start with freshly cleansed skin and a Gua Sha tool.
- You can choose to apply some oil or serum to help the tool easily glide on your skin.
How often should I Gua Sha? Is it ok to Gua Sha every day?
We recommend at least once a week, or up to once daily per area.
When is the best time of day to Gua Sha?
Whenever it works best for you.
You can Gua Sha in the morning to brighten your eyes and reduce puffiness, or at night to relax and revitalize your facial muscles and help you get quality sleep. You can also take a quick facial massage break any time during the day, or while lounging at home watching your favorite shows.
Does Gua Sha help a double chin?
A consistent Gua Sha routine can help contour and lift your face in combination with quality nutrition, hydration, and exercise. It’s not a quick fix; it’s a regimen that can continue producing benefits over time.
How does Gua Sha compare to jade rolling?
Both methods are awesome, but Gua Sha is most effective.
Similar to rolling devices, Gua Sha strokes apply light pressure to the skin and facial tissues to boost circulation and cellular rejuvenation. Unlike jade rolling, Gua Sha strokes create a light stretch of skin and facial tissues, resulting in more effective, noticeable myofascial release and decompression.
What are common mistakes to avoid with Gua Sha?
The most common mistake while using Gua Sha techniques is applying too much, vigorous pressure. Your facial tissues are delicate; easy does it!
Be sure to also stay extra hydrated to assist your body in moving out toxins and excess fluids.
Are there any potential risks or side effects of Gua Sha?
If you have a pre-existing medical condition or blood coagulation issues, ask your healthcare provider before using any therapy that stimulates blood flow.
Gua Sha is considered safe for most skin types. Gua Sha is not recommended for those with open wounds, infections, sunburns, rashes, or circulatory issues.
